When Enoch was 65 years old, he became the father of Methuselah.  After the birth of Methuselah, Enoch lived in close fellowship with God for another 300 years, and he had other sons and daughters.  Enoch lived 365 years,  walking in close fellowship with God. Then one day he disappeared, because God took him.  Genesis 5:21-24 (NLT2)

This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.  So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. 1 John 1:5-6 (NLT2)

As Christians we walk in fellowship with God.  And because we walk in fellowship with God, we are waiting for a day when Jesus comes back for us.  It is interesting to me that in the Old Testament we find a descendant of Adam who walked in fellowship with God.  In this list of descendants each of the men named lived over 900 years.   This man Enoch was an exception.   He only lived 365 years before God took him away.  Everyone else died but Enoch was taken away.

Enoch is a picture of the true church today.  We don't practice religion, we walk in fellowship with God - unless of course we don't.  During the years the New Testament was being written, many in the church claimed to walk in fellowship with God but it was clear that they did not.   In the seven letters to the churches in Revelation even church leaders were identified as not walking in fellowship with God.  In Matthew 7, Jesus spoke of people who called Him Lord who would not see the kingdom of God because He never knew them.  No fellowship.

Just as Enoch never died, those who have fellowship with Christ will never die.  Jesus taught us this truth in John 11:26.   I guess for each of us who know that we can walk in fellowship with God the choice is simple.   Either I live in fellowship with the world and continue to live in spiritual darkness in which case my eternity is uncertain.   Or I can live in fellowship with Jesus and know that my eternity is secure in the One I am walking with.   If I choose the latter, one day I will be taken away to be with Him forever.   So don't believe in what you believe, believe in Jesus and walk with Him today!
