The LORD says, "Do not cling to events of the past or dwell on what happened long ago.  Watch for the new thing I am going to do. It is happening already—you can see it now! I will make a road through the wilderness and give you streams of water there."   Isaiah 43:18-19 (TEV)

Have you ever been to a boring church?  I'm not asking have you ever had to sit through a boring sermon.   Sermons happen in churches but sermons are not the church.   Whenever God talks about the church He is talking about the Christians who make up the church.

So I ask again, have you ever been to a boring church?   I'm not asking have you been bored at a church, I'm asking have you ever been to a church where the people you meet there are bored?  What a sad thing to witness.   You can have a church of 10,000 bored people or a church of 5 excited people.   10,000 bored people can accomplish a lot more than 5 excited people.   After all, they can have more programs, more Bible studies, more "fun" events, pretty much more everything.   To the outsider more must be better.   It's like a bored rich person can have more toys and can go more places than a poor person who is limited to what is available to him or her.  But if that poor person knows God and follows Jesus, he or she will never be bored because everyday God is doing something new and different.

Bored people do the same things over and over again.  Bored churches are made up of bored Christians.  Exciting churches are made up of excited Christians who are always attempting the next thing God is doing in their lives and in their church.   They trust God enough to look for the new thing He is doing and when they see it, they trust Him to be their guide and their provision as they join Him on the journey.   In the end, exciting churches have Christians who follow Jesus discovering the new instead of Christians following people, programs and ministries repeating the old.   Let me encourage you to make your church more exciting!   Get excited about the new thing God is doing in your life and share it with your church family as you follow Him today.    Why settle for boredom when you don't have to?
